EnSO Energy Smart Offices
In order to make the working environments more smart or intelligent research is being done in the are of Smart Offices and Intelligent Decisions Rooms.

The EnSO project will develop a scalable energy-aware framework that incorporates dynamic occupant activity recognition and building context knowledge to adapt office installations and appliances for saving energy.

EnSO

The EnSO approach builds on cooperative, goal-oriented ambient intelligence, Artificial Intelligence planning and state of the art wireless sensor network techniques.

This is why

Substantial energy savings in office buildings could be achieved by building-wide collaborative switching and regulating installations and appliances according to actual needs.

The consortium is composed by the Distributed Systems group of the University of Groningen and the Pervasive systems group of the Technical University of Eindhoven. IBM Benelux and Philips Research are the technological partners of this NWO Smart Energy Systems proposal.

Nowadays, the human being expends a lot of time in working spaces, like offices and decision rooms. In spite of the amount of technology available (computer, networks, cameras, microphones), these spaces are still too passive.

Conclusions

In order to make the working environments more smart or intelligent research is being done in the are of Smart Offices and Intelligent Decisions Rooms. this research originated some prototype level spaces experiencing some of the functionalities that will be certainly available in the offices and meeting rooms of the future. It is expected that Smart Offices and Intelligent Decision Rooms integrate AmI environments covering the following tasks:

  • interpreting the environment state
  • representing the information and knowledge associated with the environment
  • modeling, simulating and representing entities in the environment
  • planing decisions or actions
  • learning about the environment and associated aspects
  • interacting with humans
  • acting on the environment

The several systems consider in part these tasks and gave the first steps for the future trends of this kind of environments.
